Frequently Asked Questions
How long are private charters to Exuma and Eleuthera?
Most of our private Exuma and Eleuthera adventures are full-day charters of approximately eight hours. Northern Exuma can also be booked as a six-hour charter.
For full-day charters, we recommend departing Nassau around 8:30 AM. A later departure may reduce the amount of time available at each destination or require stops to be shortened or omitted.
How many guests can join a private Exuma or Eleuthera charter?
Our standard private charter pricing covers up to 8 guests. Additional guests can be added for $200 per person, up to 10 guests.
If you have a larger group, please contact our team before booking so we can advise you on available options.
Can we customize our private charter itinerary?
Yes, within reason. Private charters offer more flexibility than our shared tours, and your group may choose to skip certain stops or spend the day differently when time and conditions allow.
Because Exuma and Eleuthera require significant travel time from Nassau, the itinerary cannot be completely open-ended. Your captain will help manage the day so there is sufficient time for the planned experiences and the return journey to Nassau.
Can we visit Thunderball Grotto on a private Exuma charter?
Thunderball Grotto may be possible on a private Exuma charter when the tide, sea conditions and timing are suitable. This experience is best suited to confident, strong swimmers.
Because access to the grotto is highly dependent on conditions, it cannot be guaranteed in advance.
Is lunch included with a private Exuma or Eleuthera charter?
Yes. Lunch is included with our full-day private Southern Exuma and Eleuthera charters. Lunch is not included on our Northern Exuma private tour due to seasonal and limited restaurant options. For this tour our team can assist with making reservations at a location that is available on your tour date.
Your charter also includes local beer, soft drinks and bottled water onboard, along with snorkeling equipment, applicable landing fees and animal food.
Are private Exuma and Eleuthera charters suitable for children?
Children ages 2 and older may participate. Children under 2 are not permitted on these longer-distance speedboat charters.
Parents should consider their child's comfort with a full day on a speedboat and longer periods of open-water travel when deciding whether this experience is appropriate for their family.
Can pregnant guests join a private Exuma or Eleuthera charter?
No. Due to the speedboat ride and open-water conditions, these charters are not suitable for pregnant guests.
They are also not recommended for guests with chronic neck or back problems. Our boats are not wheelchair accessible, and guests should be comfortable boarding the vessel and using a boat ladder where required for certain activities.
Can cruise ship passengers book a private Exuma or Eleuthera charter?
These are long-distance, full-day experiences, so cruise passengers should carefully consider their ship's arrival and departure times before booking.
A departure around 8:30 AM is recommended to allow enough time for the itinerary. Guests are responsible for allowing sufficient time to travel between the cruise port and our Paradise Island departure location and to return to their ship.
Please provide your ship's schedule before booking so our team can advise whether the charter is practical for your port day.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Long-distance charters depend heavily on wind, sea conditions and the safety of the open-water crossing from Nassau.
Our captains monitor conditions and may adjust the itinerary, substitute stops or determine that the charter cannot safely operate. If Born Free Charters cancels your charter because of unsafe weather or a mechanical issue, you will receive a full refund.
What is the cancellation policy for private Exuma and Eleuthera charters?
A 7-day cancellation policy applies to our long-distance private charters. Cancellations made at least 7 days before departure are eligible for a full refund.
Cancellations, including requests to reschedule, made within 7 days of departure are subject to the full charter charge.
Are wildlife sightings guaranteed?
No. The pigs, nurse sharks, turtles, iguanas and other animals encountered during these charters are living animals, and wildlife sightings or interactions cannot be guaranteed.
Your captain may also adjust or substitute stops when weather, tides, sea conditions, accessibility or other operational considerations make a planned location unsuitable.
